Kids tent

Playing outside is one of the many joys of summer. This little project will allow the kids to have loads of fun, while being protected from the Sun.

Measure and cut the wood

  • 1.1 - Measure and cut 1 pine board at 4'½".
  • 1.2 - Mesure and mark that piece at 2" from both ends.
  • 1.3 - On the other 4 pieces of pine, measure and mark at 2" from one end.
  • 1.4 - On the same 4 pieces, measure and mark the other end at 12".

Drill the holes

  • 2.1 - Drill holes in the 5 pieces of pine, in the marks made at steps 1.2, 1.3, and 1.4.

Build the tent

  • 3.1 - Place the sewable iron-on adhesive tape on either 60" side of the fabric to form a 4" hem.
  • 3.2 - Fold the fabric over and secure using an iron.
  • 3.3 - Thread the dowels through the hem.

Assemble the structure

  • 4.1 - Build 2 X-shaped structures with the pine boards and align the holes at the top.
  • 4.2 - Thread a dowel through the holes.
  • 4.3 - Place the dowels with the fabric in the holes at the bottom of the X structure.
  • 4.4 - Add the last piece of pine to the end of the fabric-covered dowels.

Decorate the tent

  • 5.1 - Add an outdoor carpet and some cushions to make the tent more cozy.
